Apple, Inc. AAPL Soars On Earnings Texas Instruments Inc TXN Follows Suit

People are talking, and it’s not just on the iPhone, though sales of that modern technological wonder causing Apple, Inc. stock (AAPL) to soar. And they aren’t alone, since Apple is a technological giant, those who run in the same company also profit just by association, in this case Texas Instruments After Hours: 24.19 Up 0.67 (2.85%) 5:51pm ET
It’s all about earnings and Apple reports a 46% increase in earnings, getting a boost from back-to-school demand, which pushed Mac sales past the 3-million-unit mark during the quarter. Shares surge above $200 in late trading.
While that is great for Apple, it also sends a signal to investors that things might not be as bad as they seem and investing might actually be a good thing. Based on that “school of thought” the Dow Jones industrial average rose 96 points, likewise the Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose but ended just shy of 1,100, having earlier topped that number.
Burt White, chief investment officer at LPL Financial in Boston, noted that three of every four companies have topped analysts’ expectations for earnings in the July-September quarter. While most have yet to report, the early results are a sign that companies are holding up better than many had predicted.
“The recovery is moving faster than analysts can sharpen their pencils and revise their estimates upward,” he said.
